Good Isn’t Very Exciting, Or Is It?
Sometimes as Christians, we tend to focus in on a particular attribute of God that we like or that we have experienced in our own life. That is not to say that we don’t recognize or appreciate all of who God is, but sometimes it’s easy to get carried away by a specific part. For example, I tend to focus in on the victorious aspect of God – overcoming, deliverance, power, etc. Some people focus in on the loving aspect of God or on healing or another wonderful part of who God is.
This is why when I hear worship songs about God’s goodness, I have a tendency to yawn. Goodness is not generally one of the attributes of God that I get all excited about. But it should be! Today, the Holy Spirit reminded me that if it were not for His goodness, my life would not be what it is today. We often become overwhelmed (in our humanity) with our problems and troubles and hurts, but our lives and our world would be much worse (if they even existed) were it not for the goodness of God. Indeed, our God is good! The balance of everything is held in His hands, and we should rejoice that He is good! Our very soul (which He created) has eternal hope because He is good! And He wants NO ONE to perish but for each of us to have eternal life. So much so, that He sent Jesus. And the gospel message is ours, because our God is good! He has completely made the way for each of us to live fully in Him and to spend eternity in heaven and not in hell. The choice is ours! Thank God the Holy Spirit works in hearts to reveal Himself to us so that we may know Him!
I am so glad that God and Satan, or God and any other god, are not equals, and that our good God HAS WON! (See, I’m turning this into the victorious aspect, aren’t I? – I just can’t help myself!)
Is there an aspect of God that you focus on more than others? There is nothing wrong with that – God can use your enthusiasm and experience in that area to encourage and minister to others. With that said, let’s allow ourselves to absorb even more of who God is and take in His fullness as much as our carnal bodies can stand! He is such an AWESOME God!
Thank you, God, that you are good and your mercy endureth forever!
