My Heartfelt Prayer

Here is a poem/prayer I wrote one month before Ava was born. And I can express the same sentiments for my son…

My Heartfelt Prayer

Lord, thank you for this miracle, this marvelous gift –
Thank you for my daughter.
I’m so amazed and blessed by You;
I’m baffled by your goodness, and showered with your love.

I haven’t held her yet; I don’t know the color of her eyes;
I know nothing of her talents and her dreams.
But I do know that I love her and I have a job to do
And it starts when I hand her over and give all of her to You.

You are her Creator; you know and love her most
And I need your help to raise her,
to challenge her, to teach her how to fly.
God, help me be an example of a lady reflecting You
So she’ll have a daily reminder of what Your changing power will do.

I want her to know that all she is and ever will become
All begins with knowing You as Savior,
loving You as Father,
and trusting You as Lord.

Your dreams for her are greater than mine –
More than we can ask or imagine.
So let it be, Lord, let it be – make her room your home
And make my heart, my voice, and hands a reflection of your own.

Lord, I’ve never been a mother, but You and I go way back
And I’m confident You’ll help me and give me the wisdom I lack.
I’ll do my best to please You in all I say and do
And maybe one day my daughter will say,
“Mommy, I see the Lord in You.”
