Growth Chart

Here’s a project that took some time, but it turned out so great! Because I wanted her growth chart to be able to change rooms, or houses, or be boxed away, I decided to make my daughter a fabric, keepsake growth chart. When I created this growth chart in 2010, it wasn’t common to find them made out of fabric, but you can find them easily now on Etsy and in shops. If you still like the idea of making your own to fit your child’s personality or room decor, however, you may want to give it a go, too!

It is created from strong canvas fabric that doesn’t warp or sag, which I hemmed with strong glue and ran a wooden dowel through at the top and bottom for reinforcement and structure. Of course it is carefully measured out and marked, and the rest was fun to paint freehand. I left enough room at the top to have a local shop embroider her name. After it was embroidered, I added the cutest buttons and trims for embellishment and finished it with a note which I pinned to the back:

Ava Grace,
I made this growth chart just for you ~
Growing happens fast.
From little baby to little girl
These marks of growth will last.
Grow in height and grow in Jesus ~
He will make you strong.
Small or tall, it doesn’t matter
When to Jesus you belong.
I love you now, and I always will!
Love, Mommy
