Description
Many of the pieces of this resource package may be pulled out and used as stand-alone printables, however, the package is designed to work with your favorite early world history course and to help the student learn in an intuitive and meaningful way. We most enjoy using it to complement Mystery of History Volume 1. A 3-ring binder is suggested for keeping the student’s work (writing & charts & game cards) organized. By the end, the student will have memorable information about major events and people, which can serve as a reference tool and also as an attractive way for the student to proudly show what they have been studying. (More instruction on using this resource is given in the file.)
Components:
- Student Guide – The student guide includes instructions to the student for each topic. Instructions will include a writing prompt so the student can reflectively answer a related question, and it also includes directions to build any charts corresponding with that topic. Not all topics will have a corresponding chart.
- Writing Sheets – Select from six different layouts. These sheets are intended to be used for answering writing prompts from the Student Guide (although they may be used in any way for any subject). Sheets are laid out with places to illustrate or add a timeline figure or sticker. When organized chronologically, these pages can serve as a type of timeline.
- Building Charts – As directed in the Student Guide, students will complete charts as they learn the information. So, filling out one chart may only take one day/lesson to complete, but it may take several. Each chart/map/graph/activity/etc. is designed uniquely to help with interest and retention. An answer key for these charts is included.
- Game Card Review – A template for game cards is included to make an easy review opportunity for the student. The student fills the cards out with important fact questions or missed questions from a test or quiz, and then cuts them out to use them with any board game.

I have been using this resource like a workbook with Mystery of History, and I love it. I just read a day’s worth from the book, and then follow the writing questions and fill in charts as directed. The maps are my favorite part. Thanks for creating this! It’s well organized, but not overwhelming.
