Fish Outta Water
This past summer, Tim and I had a wonderful, relaxing vacation at Ocean Isle Beach with Tim’s parents. We all soaked up a lot of sun, and I took in a lot of water while having a blast riding the waves. You know, while I greatly enjoyed visiting the ocean, I do not belong permanently IN the ocean.
If I took a fish out of the ocean and laid it on the beach, that fish would not be happy. What could I do to give him back his happiness? a mountain of money? a beach towel? a cold drink? a beach house? Of course not. All these ideas are ridiculous since the only thing that would make the fish happy would be to place him back in the ocean. The fish is only happy when he is where he belongs.
Are you where you belong? Just as the fish was created for the ocean, mankind was created by God for fellowship with Him. We can be truly happy only when we are close to God, because that is where we belong.
“I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” -Psalm 16:9-11
